Thomsen & Nybeck Firm History

In the winter of 1971-1972, three highly regarded, independent attorneys who shared an office decided that they could better serve their clients as a multifaceted law firm located near their rapidly growing suburban client base. Allen, Thomsen, Nybeck and Zeck became a reality when their doors opened in Edina on May 1, 1972. Before long, the esteem of these four attorneys attracted four more attorneys and the firm quickly doubled in size.

When it opened in 1972, Thomsen Nybeck was one of the few law firms located in the suburbs. The individuals of the group had each developed a good reputation in Edina and wanted to practice in that community. The rationale for opening a suburban firm was to provide quality service in a convenient, accessible location, as an alternative to downtown Minneapolis. Within the first year, the firm outgrew its first location at 7100 France Avenue South and relocated to 7250 France Avenue South.  In 1982, the firm became further established when it was awarded the contract for municipal prosecution for the city of Edina.

In 1997, Thomsen Nybeck further broadened its abilities and reputation by acquiring the respected law firm of Rode, Lucas & Schellhas, PLLP. The firm again spread its strong foundation through experienced attorneys. As the firm grew, so did its reputation and roots in the community and throughout Minnesota.  The firm continued to grow and it moved in 2009 to its present location at 3600 American Boulevard West.

Today, the practice areas served by the firm are as broad as the needs of its clients. Thomsen Nybeck now consists of eleven member attorneys, six associates and two of counsel attorneys. Throughout its history and into the future, the firm strikes a balance between small-firm comforts and large-firm capabilities.
