James H. Gempeler

James is an associate in the Litigation practice group. He concentrates his practice in the areas of general civil litigation, real estate litigation, construction litigation and criminal law. Prior to joining Thomsen Nybeck, James worked as an associate for a large Minneapolis law firm where he defended multiple clients in toxic tort claims in state and federal court. Through this work, he gained invaluable litigation and trial experience, including arguing motions, taking lead on depositions, and developing defense strategies in preparation of trial. Of note, he assisted in the successful defense at trial in the face of a $25M claim. James brings this hands-on litigation experience and strong work ethic to Thomsen Nybeck.

During law school, James worked as a law clerk in a Twin Cities law firm assisting attorneys in personal injury, city prosecutions, and civil municipal matters. He was also a law clerk at a criminal defense firm, where he interviewed witnesses, prepared trial materials, and drafted legal briefs. James was a member of the William Mitchell College of Law 2008 trial team that took third place in the regional competition in Seattle, Washington. He earned the Minnesota Justice Foundation Achievement in Volunteer Public Service for his volunteer work at the Anoka County Public Defender’s Office. James is an avid sports fan, enjoys golfing, and spending time with his family and friends.
